New NLD member to face court

Ko Ko Gyi and other 88 Generation leaders have been called to attend court on 22 July for demonstrating without a permit.
Myo Aung, a South Okkalapa Police Officer told Mizzima on July 20 that Ko Ko Gyi, Dr. Saw Naing, Myo Khin, Naing Ko Lin and Sitt Maung have to face charges for illegal demonstrations conducted in December 2014.
The group were demonstrating to have a park and playground returned to the South Okkalapa community in December last year. Ko Ko Gyi’s personal secretary did not want to confirm the statement and asked Mizzima to refer to other sources.
Ko Ko Gyi will be running for the NLD as a contender for a seat in South Okkalapa in the 2015 Myanmar General Election - announced on 19 July by Central Committee member U Nyan Win.
An activist in the 1988 demonstrations, the MP contender served 17 years in Insein Prison.
