Kokang fighters deny recruiting Chinese mercenaries

The Kokang fighters battling with Myanmar government troops in Shan State has denied reports it is recruiting Chinese nationals to serve as mercenaries in its fight to reclaim territory in the country’s remote Kokang border region, according the Radio Free Asia on March 27.
Tun Myat Lin, spokesman for the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army or MNDAA under aging leader Peng Jiasheng, refuted claims by an RFA source earlier in the week that the group had been offering a sign-up package to former soldiers demobilized from China's People's Liberation Army or PLA.
He said the Kokang Army does not use Chinese mercenaries, adding that the Chinese government would not allow this. He provided written statements in English and Chinese to this effect.
