The Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC) on 13 June urged Myanmar authorities, including the President, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, to conduct an investigation into the January 2015 murder of two female Kachin teachers.
“It is new government, so we urged it to conduct an investigation,” Dr.Kha Lung Hsam Hsum, the general secretary of KBC, told Mizzima. “We want the government to effectively take action against those who committed the crime.”
Tangbau Hkawn Nan Zing and Maran Lu Ra, aged 21 and 20 respectively, were volunteering with the KBC in KawngHka Village in Muse District in northern Shan State when they were raped and murdered in their room on the night of 19 January, 2015.
Although activists and organizations had urged the former government to investigate the case, the culprits have not been identified.
Dr.Kha Lung Hsam Hsum said he hopes the new government will investigate the case.
“We will be awaiting their response,” he said.
