The German Government has committed 10 million euro additional grants for flood-affected areas in northern Myanmar.
German Ambassador Christian-Ludwig Weber-Lortsch said poverty alleviation in rural areas is a priority in German-Myanmar relations.
“We don’t push paper, we perform our promises: On the ground, with the government and for the people,” he said.
“The money will go to building bridges and roads to reconnect 32 flood-effected villages in Kalay District serving 50,000 people. The project is started already, thanks to the un-bureaucratic assistance of the Department of Rural Development,” he said.
The ambassador said the Myanmar government “organized free and fair elections and is now enabling a peaceful and democratic transition of power. That de-serves respect and support.”
The Myanmar government appointed the Ministry of Live Stock, Fisheries and Rural Development as project partner and executing agency.
