Several recently expelled members of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) have called for an emergency conference to be held in accordance with the party’s basic principles, state media reported on 31 May.
The sacked USDP members include former Union Parliament Speaker and party vice chairperson Thura U Shwe Mann and several members of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Legal Affairs and Special Cases Assessment Commission.
The ousted members said the purge violated the party’s charter, and current party leaders behaved like authoritarians.
