Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, called this morning on Aung San Suu Kyi, chairperson of the National League for Democracy (NLD), to congratulate her on her election victory, according to a press release on 17 November.
In the call, the High Representative welcomed the early initiatives undertaken by Aung San Suu Kyi for dialogue in a spirit of national unity and reconciliation. It is now important for all parties to accept the election results as it is crucial to work towards a peaceful transition through dialogue and reconciliation. Federica Mogherini and Aung San Suu Kyi agreed to keep in contact all along this process in the coming months, the press release said.
It also said that Ms.Mogheriniunderlined the commitment of the EU, as a long-time partner of Myanmar, to support the transition.
