Drugs worth over 210.6 million kyat were seized near Namkai village, Maipasho village-tracts, Kyailak Township, Tachileik district.
The police flagged down a Tarlay bound Vigo one-and-half cab pickup truck and a Mitsubishi Pajero IO SUV coming from Kyailak and found the drugs in the two cars.
A combined force of Anti-drug trafficking police, Light Infantry Battalion 316, Military Affairs Security, Maiparsho police station and special branch stopped the cars on January 13 at about 4 a.m. and searched the cars in the presence of witnesses.
Authorities first searched the Vigo and found 19 bags of caffeine each bag weighing 25 Kg and totalling 475 Kg with a value of 35.625 million kyat, Tachileik anti-narcotic drug trafficking police said.
The driver and two accompanying passengers fled from the crime scene and they were on the run. The police registered case against these fugitives at Maiparsho police station.
They then stopped the Kyailak bound Pajero IO SUV coming from Tarlay and found 35 packets of pink ecstasy tablets with the trademark WY, each packet contained 2,000 tablets totalling 70,000 tablets in all weighing about 7 Kg.
Maiparsho police station filed charges against the persons found in the car Lawshi, 22, male, Hla Win, 39, male and Shimon, 20, male.
Tachileik anti-narcotic drug trafficking police said that they had seized over 1.2 million tablets (1,230,001) and 8,432.028 Kg of caffeine in 2015.
Other narcotics seized in 2015 in Tachileik district were heroin, ecstasy powder, semi-processed opium at different stages, raw opium, Ice, Ephedrine and unknown chemicals being investigated. 312 people, 269 male and 43 female, were arrested in connection with drug trafficking.
