The Embassy of the Republic of Korea plans to host the final stage of “Myanmar K-pop Cover Festival” at the Myanmar Plaza in Yangon this coming Wednesday.
K-pop, short for Korean pop music, is very popular in Myanmar and the Southeast Asian region, prompting many singers and musicians to mimic or copy the style.
In the Festival, 16 finalists, selected out of 95 teams through highly competitive preliminary, will compete to win the prize in the area of Cover song and Cover dance. The last year’s winners and a group of K-pop fans will also make a performance in celebration of the Festival.
Myanmar K-pop Cover Festival is a part of the regional preliminary of “World K-pop Festival”, hosted by KBS (Korean Broadcasting System), which will be held in Changwon, Korea in September 2016 and broadcasted to all over the world by KBS world channel.
As the embassy says, they hope the Festival will contribute to enriching cultural exchange between Korea and Myanmar by enhancing mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries.
