Background

Diplomatic relations established: 1953

Burma Policy: Constructive engagement

Egypt maintains historical relations with Myanmar since their contribution to the foundation of the Non-Alliance Movement in the fifties. Bilateral relations have developed significantly between 2005-2006 after the to Myanmar and signing the Memorandum of Understanding on holding regular political consultations between the two countries

A Memorandum of Understanding in Agriculture

2008- Second bilateral political consultation meeting between Myanmar and Egypt in Yangon

22 March 2006 Memorandum of understanding between the foreign ministries there on establishing such bilateral meeting to enhance cooperation between the two countries.
7 November 2009 Myanmar and Egypt will cooperate in education, technology and culture under an agreement between the two countries.

High Level Visits
March 2006 First bilateral consultation meeting between Myanmar and Egypt was held in Cairo after Assistant Foreign Minister U Kyaw Thu visited Cairo then and met with his Egyptian counterpart Aly Houssam, Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs.
