It is indeed difficult to explain the suffering of the people of Burma after Cyclone Nargis lashed the country. When I log on to the Mizzima website and read the articles and see the photographs, it really touches my heart. So many people are dying, thousands are missing and millions are suffering in the aftermath of the cyclone.
The main thing is that the Burmese regime is incapable of looking after its people and it cannot provide for the needs of the countrymen. Many of the victims are starving and homeless. And at this crucial juncture the junta is denying permission to foreign countries that are willing to help cyclone victims.
The world cannot stand and watch the people of Burma dying and suffering. Some relief materials have reached Burma though it is far from enough. When I saw the pictures, I felt that I was hearing them cry out for help. And given the enormity of the natural disaster military personnel are selling relief materials meant for the victims. One wonders at the strange, corrupt and barbaric attitude of the military. And also in this crucial time the SPDC held the referendum and threatened people to cast the 'yes' vote. Are the Burmese people meant to suffer so much? Can't they live a free and fair life? I appeal to the UN and the whole world to take the responsibility to better the lives of the Burmese people by restoring democracy in the country.
