With the aim to address the challenges and opportunities faced by adolescent groups and encourage their engagement in the current development process of Myanmar, ActionAid Myanmar - in cooperation with UNICEF and various civil society organizations under the lead of Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, are holding a National Adolescents' Conference in Nay Pyi Taw from 18 -19 May.
Government officials, responsible people from civil organizations, INGOs, youth groups and over 400 adolescent representatives from all over the country attended the opening ceremony of the conference.
During the conference, adolescents presented work from other youth-focused organisations, sharing their areas of work on health, education, entrepreneurship, and innovation sectors. Through participatory discussion, adolescents from different areas and ethnic groups also shared information on their challenges, issues and needs.
It’s expected that through the conference, an adolescent network can be established and key adolescent leaders will be identified to continue the dialogue with stakeholders and move forward their action plans.
