As part of government’s efforts to support economic growth, Myanmar launched the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Protocol and Guidelines for 15 crops on November 10.
The initiative, led by Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation in cooperation with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), was launched at the Man Myanmar Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw.
The launch of Myanmar’s GAP Protocol and Guidelines aims to boost the profits of farmers by educating cultivators on how to produce safe and quality products for the local and international market.
Today, seventy per cent of Myanmar’s population is engaged in small-scale agriculture. Supporting subsistence farmers is critically important to Myanmar’s economic growth.
Speaking at the launch of the Myanmar GAP Protocol and Crops’ Guidelines today, Dr. Aung Thu, the Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, urged all stakeholders to cooperate in implementing the GAP system nationwide.
The launch of the GAP Protocol and Guidelines is one way in which the Government of Myanmar is working to develop the agricultural sector, in line with the 12 point economic policy, launched in July 2016.
