Union Parliament Chairman Thura Shwe Mann

Parliament has passed a motion for the initial development of the Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone (SEZ) consisting of 4,289.32 acres in Kyaukphyu, Rakhine State. The motion got 424 Yes votes, with 23 Nay votes and 2 abstentions.
Union Parliament Chairman Thura Shwe Mann said at the parliament session, “Both MPs and the people have their concerns over the Kyaukphyu SEZ and they really are sceptical about pushing for the demarcation of it just before the expiry of the current term of the President and his cabinet.”
The Union Parliament had debated the motion for two days. Though most of the MPs agreed to accept the motion, they still had concerns over the hasty implementation of the project Thura Shwe Mann said.
