Myanmar’s leading entertainment and media company, Forever Group, will boost its digital delivery and high definition TV coverage with a long-term contract to add five transponders to its existing three on a Thaicom satellite.
At the same time, the deal significantly increases the utilization rate on Thaicom satellites.
“Thaicom's satellite platform serves as an important pillar in the expansion of our digital content delivery network, which distributes entertainment, culture and news to viewers in Myanmar,” said Win Maw, chief executive officer of Forever Group, according to The Nation, a Thai newspaper, on Tuesday.
Myanmar has been one of Thaicom's key markets for more than 15 years.
Paiboon Panuwattanawong, chief executive officer of Thaicom, said the deal underscores Thaicom's long-term commitment to the Asean Economic Community and its market strategy.
The company's servicing capacity and footprint in Asia will also be strengthened by upcoming satellite launches, he said.
Forever Group was founded in 1996 as the first graphic training center in Myanmar. It introduced an e-education learning system in cooperation with the Information Ministry in 2001 and Myanmar's first e-book business in May 2003.
In 2004, a free-to-air TV channel, MRTV-4, was launched as a joint venture with the Information Ministry and Myanmar Radio and Television.
