Yangon Bus Service joined forces this week with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Yangon Regional Government to promote Zero Virus Day.

The infection control and awareness raising project was held for YBS passengers to help people become aware of the dangers of the COVID-19 virus and how to prevent its spread.

JICA provided 4,500 hand sanitizers to the Yangon Regional Government and they were installed in all of the buses. YRTA staff distributed free face masks to passengers at the bus stops to raise awareness on importance of infection prevention measures on public transport.

YBS is the main means of transportation for many Yangon citizens and typically 1.6 million people use the service every day. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic the daily number has dropped to close to 400,000.

“Zero Virus Day” was held as one of a number of pilot projects under the JICA technical cooperation project called “Project for Improving Public Bus Services in Yangon”, a project that has been in place since 2018.
