Ms. Aler Grubbs, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director in Myanmar, joined Dr. Thida Oo, Permanent Secretary for the Union Attorney General’s Office to announce the expansion of the pilot Law Office program at a virtual event.

Ten additional law offices will begin using technology to improve case management, record keeping, reporting, and transparency. Law offices will follow standardized guidelines to facilitate more effective prosecutions. This is important for trafficking in persons cases to prevent re-traumatizing survivors.

The ten law offices joining the pilot program are located in Meiktila, Yamethin, Lashio, Pyapon, Pyay, southern Yangon, Myitkyina, Sagaing, Kanbalu, and Thanton districts. This builds on the successful experience of the original eight pilot law offices in Pyin Oo Lwin, Taunggyi, Mawlamyine, Pathein, Dawei, and eastern Yangon districts, and Chan Aye Thar Zan and Mawlamyine townships that the USAID’s Promoting Rule of Law activities have supported beginning in late 2016.
