Union of Myanmar Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) and its brethren organizations namely Myanmar Rice Federation, Cooking Oil Traders Association and Hlinetharyar Industrial Zone management committee jointly sold essential foodstuffs to people at Hlinetharyar Industrial Zone management committee office on March 26 in the evening at fair price which was 35% cheaper than market price.

UMFCCI management committee member Sann Lin explained:

“We come and sell these essential foodstuffs such as rice and cooking oil to factory workers and local people living in Hlinetharyar industrial zone directly at a fair price with the intention of direct sale to the needy consumers. We would like to let the people know that the rumours circulating among the people of closure of factories and shortage of foodstuffs in the country are not true. So we would like to urge people not to do panic buying and hoarding believing these rumours.”

Myanmar Rice Federation and brethren Myanmar Rice Association sold rice at below market price.

Local resident Nyo Nyo Myint said: “The current market price of the rice they sold here is about 1,400 kyats per pyi and the cooking oil is about 1,500-1600 kyats per pouch. Currently some factories closed and some factories laid off workers and trading is sluggish in the market so that many are facing hardships in their living. This sale programme at a fair price helped provide convenience to us.”
