Political parties and some political analysts said that the Union Election Commission (UEC) should meet political parties and the Ministry of Health for discussing election campaigning matters for the forthcoming general elections during COVID-19.

As per the Election Law, the political parties have the right to canvass 60 days before the poll date, starting from September 8.

Executive Director Sai Ye Kyaw Swar Myint of People’s Alliance for Credible Elections (PACE) said, “The UEC should first consult with Ministry of Health and other government departments concerned and then meet with political parties to review the situations and to decide on what to do next for holding general elections.”

Similarly, Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD), Kachin State People’s Party (KNPP) and Arakan National Party (ANP) said that they were waiting and watching the official announcement for election canvassing work which would be made by UEC.
