UBP party claims they will win 50% of all constituencies in 2020 elections

Union Betterment Party (UBP) Chairman Thura Shwe Mann said that his party expected to win a minimum 40 per cent and up to 50 per cent of all constituencies in the forthcoming general election.

“We expect to win up to 50 per cent with minimum 40 per cent in the forthcoming 2020 general elections,” the party chairman claimed when queried by a reporter.

Thura Shwe Mann was speaking to the media at the UBP meeting of 14 townships in the eastern district of Yangon held at Town Hall in North Okkalapa Township on January 3.
“I would like to say, regarding the constitution, our party will try for making the constitution that will be appropriate and harmonious with our country, Myanmar,” he said.

Within eight months from establishing UBP, the membership number has reportedly reached about 500,000 and the party has started selection of candidates for the coming general election.

The party is preparing to contest in 240 townships out of total 330 townships in all States/Regions.

Party adviser Khin Maung Yee said, “We will give priority to ethnic parties in the States. There are total 330 constituencies for lower house (House of Representatives) in the whole country and we will contest only 240. We will give priority to ethnic parties in rthe emaining constituencies. So we will contest only about 240.”

Currently UBP party has opened 44 branch offices in 44 townships in the Yangon Region out of total 45 townships.
