TCP Group donates a total of 136.3 Million Kyats to support COVID-19 relief efforts in Myanmar

Yangon, 29th October, 2020 – TCPMM Private Limited, which owns and distributes Red Bull energy drink and Sponsor electrolyte drink, has donated a total of 136.3 million kyats (104,800 USD) to COVID-19 relief in Myanmar, including foreign donations of THB 1 million through the Thailand-Myanmar Business Council in Thailand. Their contributions will support the COVID-19 relief efforts of two charities – We Love Yangon and We Love Rakhine – and the Ministry of Health and Sports National COVID-19 Prevention Fund.

The first phase of donations took place on 9 April 2020, when TCPMM donated 7 million kyats to the Mandalay Regional COVID-19 Prevention Fund and provided Red Bull and Sponsor to Mandalay General Hospital and Wai Gar Gi Hospital in Yangon for health care professionals, with a total product value of over 8 million kyats

The second phase included over 15 million kyats in funds and products: 5,000 N95 protective masks given to the Ministry of Health and Sports for distribution to health care professionals, plus 10 million kyats in cash and 600 bottles of Sponsor electrolyte beverage to We Love Yangon.

TCPMM’s third phase of COVID-19 relief efforts included donations to local institutions total 96 million kyats (74,000 USD) in cash and Sponsor electrolyte beverage to two charities – We Love Yangon and We Love Rakhine – and the Ministry of Health and Sports National COVID-19 Prevention Fund, Mandalay General Hospital, Kandawnade Hospital, Ze Pin Gyi Quarantine Center and, including foreign donations of THB 1 million through the Thailand-Myanmar Business Council in Thailand. The donations to both charities were made on 5th October, while the donation to the National Prevention Fund was made on 8th October. TCPMM chose to partner with the two charity organizations due to their relief efforts which are benefitting many people hard-hit by the second wave of COVID-19 in Yangon and Rakhine.

We Love Yangon is a charity based in Yangon, established 5 March 2020, whose mission is to strive to improve the lives of local communities and bring about meaningful changes in society. It is chaired by Daw Than Myint Aung, also a member of YCDC and co-founder of the Free Funeral Service Society – Yangon. During the COVID-19 pandemic, We Love Yangon has been actively distributing aid packages to rural areas of the Yangon region via volunteer-driven trishaws, distributing food at production cost to Yangonites, doing social work at quarantine centers and areas under lockdown, and making donations to monasteries and hospitals within the city.

We Love Rakhine is a charity based in Rakhine state, established 28 August 2020, whose mission is to strive to improve the lives of local communities and bring about meaningful changes in health, social, and educational processes.

These concerted efforts to support impacted and vulnerable groups in conjunction with the government and other stakeholders are intended to represent TCP’s will for Myanmar to persevere and emerge from the current crisis stronger and more resilient as a community.
