Shan Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP) or White Tiger party chairman Dr. Sai Kyaw Ohn said that the party would field 45% of their candidates in forthcoming 2020 general elections with youths and women.

The SNDP will contest mainly in Kachin and Shan States in over 20 townships including Muse and Namkham in 2020 general elections.

Dr. Sai Kyaw Ohn said that they had not yet started candidate selection.

SNDP and Shan Nationalities League of Democracy (SNLD) merging the two ethnic Shan parties but failed.

The strong parties in Shan State are SNLD (Tiger Head) and Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) and they reportedly planned to form alliance with other parties to form a government in Shan State.

Dr. Sai Kyaw Ohn said, “The main contender in Shan State is Tiger Head (SNLD) party. Other parties are not main contenders. USDP is strong in east of Shan State. In our experience, NLD also has strong points as they contested the entire country. Our objective in Shan State is to form a government in Shan State with other ethnic Shan parties. There are 13 parties in Shan Alliance League in Shan State. We have an alliance with all of these parties. For instance, we will not contest in Kokang though there are ethnic Shan people in that State. We will give our support to the Kokang party.”

SNDP contested the 2015 general elections but could win only one seat in state legislative assembly.
