SECM will allow foreign investors including three new listed companies to trade on YSE

Securities and Exchange Commission of Myanmar (SECM) is reportedly working to grant foreign investors including three new listed companies the opportunity to trade their shares in 2020.

Myanmar Capital Market Media Workshop, jointly organized by Yangon Stock Exchange (YSE) and Myanmar Journalism Institute, was conducted on December 5 at YSE with the objective of providing more awareness about the stock exchange to the media.

The notification dated September 2019 was issued for granting listed companies in YSE namely First Myanmar Investment (FMI), Myanmar Thilawa SEZ Holdings (MTSH), Myanmar Citizens Bank (MCB) and telecom company TMH Telecom to trade their shares in the YSE including foreign investors. Moreover as per the 2017 Myanmar Companies Law, companies with 35% and above stakes owned by foreign investors can trade on the YSE.

First Myanmar Investment (FMI) and Myanmar Thilawa SEZ Holdings (MTSH) were key players the in YSE in 2019 and September witnessed the record high of trading worth 247.8 million kyats. The daily trading value of YSE has been between 90 and 100 million kyats.

Since the start of the YSE three years ago, the volume of shares traded in the stock exchange was 13.63 million shares with a value of 137 billion kyats.
