250 local people from a village in Mandalay Region asked to be the members of the People’s Party led by 88-Generation students on January 17.

A local resident called Yin Yin Aung said that they had many reasons for supporting the People’s Party at a ceremony for submitting their party membership applications in Aung Thabyay village, Dahattaw village-tracts, Patheingyi Township.

“We join this party as it is led by 88-Generation students. Our villagers are in trouble. We won’t vote for the party which does not look at the people who are in trouble. We believe only the People’s Party can work for relieving our difficulties,” she said.

Aung Thabyay village has about 1,200 population and about 465 eligible voters and out of which 150 voters will reportedly join this party.

Mandalay Region executive committee member of People’s Party, Kyaw Kyaw Soe, said that there were about over 1,000 party members in Mandalay Region.
