Over 3,000 IDPs return home in Rakhine State

Activists helping Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) said that over 3,000 people had returned to their homes from their camps as fighting between Tatmadaw (government troops) and Arakan Army (Army) began to abate.

Zaw Zaw Tun who is one of the activists said that about 30,000 IDPs returned to their homes temporarily for harvesting paddy fields and over 3,000 IDPs returned to their homes for good.

The AA issued a press statement dated November 12 which says that Tatmadaw should cease all of their operations and military movements in Rakhine State and declare a ceasefire and would cooperate with the government for holding by-elections in constituencies where the recent general elections were cancelled on security grounds.

AA also said in their statement that they had the desire to create stability in these areas for holding by-elections and they would provide assistance and support to the government and organizations concerned.

The Tatmdaw welcomed the AA press statement by issuing their press statement dated November 12 which says the Tatmadaw will cooperate and coordinate by-elections.
