Ninety percent of elderly vote executed in Mandalay

Early voting for people aged 60 and above in Mandalay has met with over 90 percent success as of Friday, says Mandalay District Election Commission.

According to the commission chairman Myint Aung, there are around 168,000 advanced voters across Mandalay Division but some still remain to cast the ballots and it will try to collect the remaining ballots as well.

Unlike other state and region's voting stamp error, a number of election-related disputes happened in Mandalay, mostly, wrong ballot papers and envelopes. Mandalay UEC chairman acknowledges that it failed to properly train volunteers, polling state station officials and UEC officials due to the COVID-19 VIRUS outbreak in Myanmar.

Regarding Mandalay UEC's door-to-door advanced vote collection, Mandalay's Maha Aung Myay resident Hla Win was upbeat.

“It is a good thing to conduct early voting for aged 60 voters and above. I have voted for the one who could bring positive change for the country,” said Hla Win.

Mandalay has about 1.276 million eligible voters, many of whom will be voting in 697 polling stations across the division on November 8.
