Myanmar president sends regrets in Thingyan holiday message

In his New Year message, President Win Myint said that he felt sorry to see the people could not enjoy the Thingyan water festival and he thanked people who have been helping in the government’s fight against the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

His message was released on 17 April, New Year’s Day.

“I feel extremely sorry to see our people cannot enjoy this year Thingyan (water festival) because of the pandemic COVID-19. I request to all people to fight against the spread of this pandemic in concerted and united efforts as your historical task,” the President said in his New Year message.

He further said in this message that he appreciates the works of staff, CSOs, technicians and academics, donors and media for their help in fighting against this virus. He also thanked people for obeying guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Sports.

As he noted, his government is continually carrying out the objectives of his administration such as law and order, uplifting socio-economic conditions in the country, national reconciliation, restoring internal peace and building a democratic federal union.

“So our government is shaping and moulding the reform work in all sectors of politics, economics, society and education,” he said in his New Year message.

Moreover, the President Office issued order on Myanmar New Year’s Day which falls on April 17 in which 24,896 prisoners were released from prison without conditions.
