Myanmar and the Philippines have signed an air services agreement, aimed at enhancing cooperation in the aviation sector, Myanmar's Transport and Communications Ministry said on Thursday.

The signing took place following the third meeting of Myanmar-Philippines Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation in Myanmar's capital Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday, co-chaired by Myanmar's Minister for International Cooperation U Kyaw Tin and Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines Teodoro Locsin.

The joint commission meeting discussed a wide range of issues covering promotion of bilateral relations and people-to-people contact, and cooperation in various sectors including operation of direct air link as well as fight against illicit trafficking and abuse of drugs.

The talks also touched on expanding multi-faceted cooperation and expanding mutual support in regional and international fields.

Before the meeting, Myanmar's State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi met Locsin and the pair exchanged views on consolidating cooperation for the mutual interest.
