The Indian Embassy is helping people in Myanmar celebrate the 6th International Day of Yoga, only this year the event is being held online due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Indian Embassy is encouraging people to take part running through a range of yoga moves, breathing and asana.

The event will be held online at Facebook/IndiaInMyanmar at 8.30 AM.

On December 11, 2014, the UN approved the resolution to establish 21st June as "International Day of Yoga". In its resolution, the UN recognized that Yoga provides a holistic approach to health and well-being and wider dissemination of information about the benefits of practicing Yoga for the health of the world population. Yoga also brings harmony in all walks of life and thus, is known for disease prevention, health promotion and management of many lifestyle-related disorders.

Indian PM Narendra Modi this week suggested that yoga provided people the opportunity to improve their health, strengthen their immune system, and possibly ward off the negative effects of the coronavirus, should a person catch it.

India currently has 396,182 official cases of COVID-19 and 12,970 deaths.
