The Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Myanmar's Tatmadaw has reshuffled two key regional commanders, abruptly transferring the chief of the country's Western Regional Command, Jane’s 360 reported.

Announced by the Tatmadaw on 28 May, the move comes against the backdrop of a deteriorating security situation in Myanmar's Rakhine and Chin states where the Arakan Army (AA) have stepped up pressure on security forces.

Major General Soe Tint Naing, who had headed the Western Regional Command that covers Myanmar's two states bordering Bangladesh and India, has been transferred to the Northwestern Regional Command, while northwestern commander Maj Gen Phone Myat will replace him at Ann, where the headquarters of the Western Regional Command is located, according to the report.
