Kyaukme demonstration leaders to be charged for holding a protest without permission

Tatmadaw (Defence Services) True News Information Team issued a press statement which says that they will take action against three leaders of a demonstration staged in Kyaukme Township, northern Shan State on July 10 in the morning which was participated by thousands of protesters, under section 19 of Peaceful Demonstration and Marching in Procession Law and section 18 of Prevention and Suppression of Infectious Diseases Act.

Three leaders in this demonstration, Sai Than Maung, Zaw Ti and Arliya, hailing from He Qui village, Kyaukme Township arrived at Lone Wai monastery in Kyaukme in 50 vehicles along with over two thousand protesters and then they staged demonstration by marching in procession in the town without getting prior permission from the State government authorities. Due to this, the three leaders will have action taken against them under the relevant laws, the statement says.

Local people alleged that a local male person aged 56 was shot dead by a Tatmadaw military column on June 29 in the morning that took place in Pan Kye village in the township under crossfire between them and a rebel group. In this incident another local woman was injured and this man was killed on the spot.

Thousands of local people from Kyaukme staged a demonstration on July 10 demanding action against the killers and justice in this case.

These demonstrators entered Kyaukme from outside areas and they staged demonstration from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
