Indonesian fishing trawler seized with 23 fishermen in Myanmar waters

The Myanmar Home Ministry says that 23 Indonesian fishermen were found with their fishing trawler 70 nautical miles west of Than Island, in Kawthaung Township, Tanintharyi Region and the crew are now under arrest.

The ministry names the skipper as Zulphan Ali, and 22 fishermen from Indonesia who were apprehended on their fishing trawler KM Troya, according to a press release February 8 afternoon.

A Navy boat from No. 58 Naval base headquarters, Zadetgyi Island, Kawthaung, found the trawler while patrolling in Myanmar waters on February 6 at 10:20 a.m.

Currently the Navy has handed over these fishermen to Kawthaung Township Fishery Department and then they have been registered case at Kawthaung Myoma police station under section 38(a)(b) of the Fishery Law.

The press release issued by Home Ministry says these fishermen were found catching fish in Myanmar waters illegally.
