The Indian Embassy and community invited people to celebrate the yearly Hindu celebration of the arrival of Ganesh on earth.
As the Indian Embassy explained, Indian families in Myanmar celebrate Ganesh Utsav on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. This festival is celebrated to seek the blessings of the elephant headed God.
A group of Indian families called “Team Morya” have celebrated Ganesh Utsav in Myanmar since 2015 and this is the fifth year of celebration. Every year they celebrate with different social and cultural themes to promote Indian cultural and to connect people of India and Myanmar through culture.
Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chavithi is a Hindu festival celebrating the arrival of Ganesha to earth from 'Kailash Parvat' with his mother goddess Parvati/Gauri.
This year Ganesh festival is celebrated from September 2 to 8 with theme “Nari”. Nari means “Women” wherein several activities have been planned to give tribute and to thank women for their contribution in human life. A cultural show on theme ‘Nari’ ran on September 7 that hundreds attened. Participants performed and gave tribute to ‘Nari’ through their act during this cultural show.
The event was held at the Gandamar Wholesale Shopping Center in Yangon.
