Union Health and Sports Minister Dr. Myint Htwe said that he would resign from his post unless Mandalay herbal medicine factory achieves GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standard within two years after receiving US$ 3 billion.

“Give me the money. Give me US$ three billion. The factory will become GMP standard within two years. I guarantee this. If it is not realized within two years I shall resign from my job,” Union Health and Sports Minister said.

The construction of the factory started 2012-13 and 3.65 billion has been spent for building and another 1.02 billion has been spent for installing equipment and machinery, totalling about 4.67 billion.

Union Health and Sports Minister said that they had to open and run the factory at the earliest date as the cost for building the factory was too high.

This factory is currently manufacturing five herbal medicines and five more medicines will be manufactured in May-September this year. This factory is being run by seven officers and 27 staffs.

Currently there are 40 alternative medicine hospitals across the country in different sizes varying from 16-bed to 100-bed hospitals.
