Hackathon contest gives six awards for education, environment and rural development

The Hackathon 2019 technical contest jointly organized by Ooredoo Myanmar and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Myanmar awarded six prizes for education, environment and rural development.

The Hackathon contest contributes to education, environment and rural development sectors in which commercial mobile applications can contest for prizes that are awarded to developers.

Ooredoo Myanmar, Head of Corporate Communications, Tint Naing Htut, said, “This contest is jointly organized by UNDP and Ooredoo Myanmar. There will be three areas in this contest and divided into basic and advanced levels. A total six prizes are awarded to the winners. The winners will get cash prizes. We will provide training programme on how to develop mobile apps and how to start investing in business to all contestants. We have such interesting and exciting programmes for this entire year before advancing to next year.”

There are senior and junior levels in each sector. At the senior level, winners in each sector are awarded a cash prize of 6 million kyats and junior level winners in each sector are awarded 3 million kyats.

The contestants developed digital technology solutions for challenges in development being faced by Myanmar in each sector namely rural development, education and climate change.

Senior-level awardee in education sector, Khin Suu Myat Thein, from Team Twee Twee said, “Their topics are very interesting for us. And another reason in contesting is seeking experience. I would like to continue this work if I really enter this profession. So I entered this contest.”

The Hackathon 2019 Contest was held in Yangon and Mandalay from October 18 to 20.

This is the second in the series in this The Hackathon 2019 technology contest. Apart from financial assistance, Ooredoo Myanmar, Impact Hub Myanmar and UNDP Myanmar will provide technology development training to winners to continue their projects.
