Former Kayah State CM will contest as Kayah State Democratic Party candidate

Kayah State Democratic Party (KySDP) secretary Thae Rae said in meeting with reporters that former Kayah State government Chief Minister Khin Maung Oo aka Boo Rae from United Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) would contest in Kayah State Legislative Assembly in 2020 general elections as their candidate.

“Boo Rae aka Khin Maung Oo is the former Kayah State Chief Minister in 2010-15 term. He will contest in Loikaw constituency (2) for State Legislative Assembly in 2020 general elections,” he said.

Khin Maung Oo contested in the 2010 general elections from Bawlakhe constituency (1) as USDP candidate and won from this seat and was elected as state government CM.

“I like his (Khin Maung Oo) capability and competency especially in peace process. We selected him as our candidate as we believe he can contribute to the peace process with his rich experience if our party wins considerable seats in 2020 general elections,” Thae Rae said.

KySDP will contest in 30 seats in 2020 general elections from Loikaw, Demoso, Hpruso, Mese, Shadaw, Bawlekhe and Hpasawng township constituencies.

Most of its candidates are middle aged with nine female candidates and they belong to various ethnicities such as Myanmar, Shan and Karen etc.

Khin Maung Oo is ethnic Kayah graduated from Defence Services Academy (DSA) 14th Intake with B.Sc. degree and he joined Air Force later as a fighter pilot and served in the air force up to Lt. Col. rank.

According to the press statement issued by Union Election Commission, 97 political parties are currently registered with them as existing registered political parties.
