Fifty-seven people killed on Yangon-Mandalay highway in first seven months

Fifty-seven people were killed with 543 others injured in road mishaps on Myanmar's Yangon-Mandalay highway as of July 31 this year, state-run media reported.

During the period, 320 traffic mishaps took place on Myanmar's busiest highway, Highway Police said.

In July alone, seven people were killed with 71 injured in connection with 62 road accidents on Yangon-Mandalay highway.

Human errors such as overspeeding, negligent driving, drowsy driving are mostly blamed for highway accidents in the country.

There were a total of 524 road accidents on the Yangon-Mandalay highway, killing 108 and injuring 1,019 others last year.
