On Friday afternoon, an explosion rattled the Bago divisional election commission office situated in Ottha Myothit Ohn Taw Road in Bago Township, said Thein Tan, chairman of the Bago branch of the National League for Democracy party.

No one was reported harmed in the incident except there was damage to UEC documents.

“There was a blast. It exploded in a room of the divisional election commission office shortly after I returned from the district election commission office around 2:30 p.m. The military officers are investigating the case,” Thein Tan said.

“This is totally unbelievable. I am very concerned as we have never come across something like this before. Election day is approaching and it's very important for us to hold elections successfully. This kind of disruption should never have happened for any reason in my opinion. It's a very worrying problem,” Thein Tan added.

The Bago divisional election commission office did not respond to Mizzima's phone calls on Friday.
