About 200 people staged a demonstration in Yangon on December 23 by marching in procession from Maha Bandoola Square along Anawrahta Street demanding justice in the ‘Victoria’ rape case and calling for action against police personnel who violated ethics and code of conduct.

Pan Pan, one of the leading protesters in the demonstration, said that she took part as a citizen who wanted rule of law and justice to prevail in Myanmar.

“I’m over 70 now. I have many sons and grandchildren. Some of them are just 7-8 years old. The rapist ruined the life of this two- and half-year-old child and the police revealed the true identity of the rape victim which will ruin the future of the child, this insensible act shocked the entire country. So, I can’t stay silent,”

One day after the trial court pronounced order discharging the accused, the Myanmar Police Force held a press conference on December 19 and they revealed the personal details of ‘Victoria’ by posting on their ‘Ye Zarni’ Facebook page.
