The crack at a dam in Myanmar's Bago region poses no risk to public safety following several earthquakes that jolted Paukkaung, Bago region last year, Xinhua reported quoting an initial assessment of the Myanmar Dams National Committee.

The crack at the earthen embankment of the Taungnawin Dam developed after several earthquakes struck near the dam area at magnitudes of 3.8, 5.1, 4.5 and 3.7 last year, U Aung Zaw Min, assistant director of the Irrigation and Water Utilization and Management Department was quoted as saying.

After local and foreign experts inspected the crack, Paukkaung authorities asked residents not to worry, saying there is currently no risk of the dam collapsing.
