The Myanmar government started shutting down all the cinemas throughout the country from Monday over the COVID-19 alert, Xinhua reported.

The government made the decision to focus on the safety of public health as the COVID-19 can spread rapidly through the mass gatherings, the announcement said.

The government has already restricted mass gatherings and public events including the Thingyan water festival until the end of April.
