The Myanmar military announced an extension of its non-operation period to the end of October, said a statement issued by the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Services Xinhua reported.

The statement said the suspension of military activities, which will expire on Wednesday, will be extended to Oct. 31, with the aim to carry out effective prevention, control and treatment measures against COVID-19, to implement eternal peace and to show support to the appeal for a global ceasefire by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

The military's operations will be suspended in areas excluding those where government-designated terrorist groups are active, the statement said.
