National League for Democracy (NLD) party central executive committee member Dr. Myo Nyunt said that all Myanmar nationals at home and abroad need to fight against the negative portrayal of Myanmar in the international media.

“We see portraying Myanmar nationals as barbarians who have no human values when we visit international media websites. All Myanmar nationals at home and abroad need to negate this negative portrayal as much as they can. I’d like to say this National Day celebration determines this task for us,” Dr. Myo Nyunt said.

He was speaking to the press at the 98th anniversary of National Day ceremony held at the NLD Headquarters in Bahan Township, Yangon on Sunday.

Dr. Myo Nyunt said that National Day was observed in honour of University Boycott led by11 Yangon University students in 1920. These students opposed the Yangon University Act and its controlled education and all restrictions imposed on them by this Act and also they opposed restrictions on freedom of choice.

In the statement issued on this 98th National Day, the NLD said that its government would inherit the good legacy and fine tradition of national unity and support given by people in executing the great tasks of success of 21st Panglong Peace Conference and emergence of a Federal Democratic Union.

This ceremony was attended by party patron Thura Tin Oo, NLD party CEC members Nyan Win, Dr. Myo Nyunt, Thein Oo, Dr. May Win Myint, Yangon Region government Chief Minister Phyo Min Thein, Yangon Legislative Assembly Chairman Tin Maung Tun, Vice-Chairman Lin Naing Myint, Region government Social Affairs Minister Naing Ngan Lin, NLD party member legislators and MPs.

After the arrival of hundreds of thousands of refugees in Bangladesh following terrorist attacks in Rakhine State, allegations of ethnic cleansing committed by Myanmar appeared in the international arena.
