Myanmar has sent back nine Bangladeshi fishermen who were detained by Myanmar's Border Guard Police in its maritime area two weeks ago, according to South Asian Monitor.

They were brought back to Bangladesh on Wednesday after a flag meeting between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Myanmar's Border Guard Police at the bordering Maungdaw town of the neighbouring country, according to a press statement issued by BGB.

They are aged between 11 to 46 years and residents of Shah Porir Dwip in Cox's Bazar district.

The fishermen were apprehended in Myanmar's maritime area on 10 November, said Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Foysal Hasan Khan, commanding officer at BGB Teknaf battalion 2.

He said the fishermen were fishing in the sea on 10 November, two kilometers away from Saint Martin's Island.

The nine fishermen were sent to mandatory quarantine, the press statement says.
