Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi has called on people to stop exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic and the general election work for military gains.

She said this saying in her speech delivered on October 15 for 5th anniversary of the signing of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA).

She also urged people to continue the peace process which should not be interrupted as it was for alleviating the sufferings of the people who were victims of the armed conflicts.

“We have challenges in the outbreak of the pandemic in the country and the election process but we cannot stop the ongoing peace process even temporarily. I would like to emphasize in this speech, not to exploit the pandemic outbreak and the election process for military gains and to stop showing hostility and anger,” she said in her speech.

The State Counsellor also said that she noticed one thing in reasoning about the peace process on this occasion of the 5th anniversary of the signing the NCA was that it was prolonging and delaying the process. Delaying the peace process was denying peace process, she added.
