Hlaing Tharyar locals who were excluded from COVID-19 cash assistance have now been able to register for a relief-package.

After the Myanmar government had distributed a fourth round of a COVID-19 subsidy of 40,000 kyat to low-income households, several criticisms and disputes were raised between disgruntled locals and administrators in almost every township.

Most claimed that the distribution of COVID-19 cash assistance was not transparent, providing aid to the more well-off but not to many daily wage earners.

As a result, the government announced that those who were excluded from cash assistance could register and submit to relevant administrative offices by November 20.

When submitting applications, National Registration Card copy, family member lists and the history of receiving previous government subsidies needed to be included.

As of November 20, more than 10,000 households have applied for COVID-19 cash assistance in Ward No. 6 of Hlaing Tharyar township, according to officials.
