Monywa-based freelance photojournalist Ko Aung Nay Myo has been released after three days of questioning over allegedly offensive material posted on his Facebook page.
Ko Aung Nay Myo was released on the afternoon of March 2. He said the police questioned him over material he had posted on his Facebook page.
Ko Aung Nay Myo was said to have been detained over the posting of a satirical photo that is said to have mocked government officials and the famous battle of “Kunlon 40 days” fought by the Myanmar army back in 1971.
The image included Photoshopped pictures of the Myanmar commander in chief, the parliamentary speaker Thura U Shwe Mann and President U Thein Sein.
He was detained following a complaint by a special branch officer to Monywa Police Station.
A group of journalists sent a letter to President U Thein Sein in response to the arrest, claiming the detention of Ko Aung Nay Myo was a threat to freedom of speech.
